Phil Murray- HS Champion
Hi Coach Barlow,
I just wanted to let you know how my high school season ended this year. We (Juneau-Douglas High School) played in the Alaska State Championship Tournament last weekend, which was held for the first time in my home town of Juneau. Our first game was against Wasilla High School and we won 3-1. Their only goal was scored off a very nice shot from a direct free kick right outside our 18 yard box. The next day we played Colony High School and we were tied 0-0 at the end of regulation. We then played two ten minute halves and in the 96th minute we scored and were able to hold them off to advance to the Championship. We then played Dimond High School in the Championship and we won 2-1. Their lone goal came off of a penalty kick from a foul inside our box, within the last minute of the game. After that we managed to hold them off for the alleged two minutes of stoppage time, which was actually five and a half. I was named Player of the Game for the Championship Game and was also one of four of our players named to the State All Tourney Team. Our only loss the whole season came from our rivals South Anchorage earlier in the year when we played them while missing half of our starting line-up due to injuries. We had a pretty good season! Just wanted to let you know about that, and that I am also keeping up with the summer workout program.
